Club artist Ray Nitti recently released a new mixtape titled April Showers. Many people are familiar with Ray Nitti via his song “Bow” a track he is unabashed about letting people know that it was always meant for the ladies.
One might think that this new mixtape would contain more attempts at recreating “Bow” to find more commercial success or to keep that club music ball rolling. You may think that walking into the project, but you will quickly find out that you were wrong.
The intro to the mixtape sets the tone with its first major message being “fuck ’em all”. This is not the club Ray Nitti. Nitti goes forward leaking anger on nearly every track, a reaction to the backlash one attains when releasing a pop record that really starts working itself around. Nitti is telling you that he’s not just some sucker, and he wants it to sink in. There is even a certain level of personality found on several of the tracks, which is another unexpected turn in the road.
Joining him on several tracks are singer J.De’lon and producer/rapper Young Nov. You might be familiar with them from an earlier post I did featuring a song they did together.
As the mixtape meanders on, you are hit with production from the Smash Boiz and some industry standards, which has become extremely acceptable in today’s mixtape culture.
With tracks like “Bow” and “Eat You Out” already out there for the ladies, this mixtape is certainly for the fellas.
I’m not here to tell you what is or isn’t quality. That is for you to decide.
